The advantages and disadvantages of voter surveys
Polling is an inexact science by nature. Pollsters seek to capture a snapshot of public opinion that is constantly in flux, so polls covering the same race sometimes yield drastically different results.
This was particularly true in the 2002 election cycle for U.S. Senate races in Louisiana, Colorado and Georgia, and gubernatorial contests in Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Vermont, according to the National Council on Public Polls (NCPP).
