NSW: Australia Day should stay

New South Wales Premier BOB CARR says there's no better day to celebrate Australia
Day than January 26.

He says Australians should be mature enough to recognise that Australia's history comprises
many different stories.

Queensland and Victoria's Labor premiers say they want the date of Australia Day changed,
but Mr CARR says January 26 is when the modern Australian story started.

He's told ABC radio it was Australia being touched for the first time by the modern world.

Mr CARR says there are ways of incorporating within Australia Day celebrations an acknowledgement
of Aboriginal Australians, their contribution to the nation and their dispossession.
