DEMOCRATIC CHIEF FINDS THIS ALBANY VISIT AN IMPROVEMENT.(Local)

Byline: Jeannie H. Cross

National Democratic Chairman Paul Kirk was well received in Albany Tuesday when he made a speech on political extremists to a crowd of staunch Democrats.

But, he told the group, he wasn't treated so kindly during or after his last visit to this capital city.

Then, Kirk was trying - unsuccessfully - to win Gov. Mario M. Cuomo's support for the party chairmanship.

After Kirk won, he recalled that "my first day on the job, I walked into the chairman's office ... Over next to the desk was a floral wreath. I walked over and picked up the card. It said, 'Rest in peace.' It was signed, 'Mario Cuomo,'" Kirk said.
