VIC: New phone line for rebuilding homes after fires

MELBOURNE, Feb 18 AAP - A telephone advice service has been launched to help victims
of Victoria's bushfires re-build their homes.

The Building and Plumbing Industry Commission launched a telephone advisory service
on Wednesday to assist people whose homes were lost or damaged in the bushfires.

Building and Plumbing Commissioner Tony Arnel said the phone line was a starting point
for people who wanted to begin re-building.

"The line will seek to respond to inquiries across all matters relating to rebuilding
- from what people need to do to return safely to their properties, what temporary onsite
accommodation is acceptable during rebuilding, and the building permits required for the
work," Mr Arnel said in a statement.

He warned people returning to their land to be aware of site contamination.

The Bushfire Building Advice line will operate from 8am to 8pm (AEDT) Monday to Friday
on 1300 360 320.
