NSW: Rates, food and petrol creating white collar battlers

Welfare groups say expensive food and petrol and rising interest rates are creating
a new class of white collar battlers.

The Salvation Army has told News Limited newspapers there's been an almost 60 per cent
rise in people needing help .. and many of them don't fit the usual profile of those in
need.

The Salvos Major PHIL MAXWELL says the numbers of people in need has grown so sharply
the charity is having to turn some people away.

And the New South Wales Council of Social Service says financial pressures are pushing
some white collar workers with full-time jobs to the brink.
